Use a Google Voice Number When Your Pet is Missing

What is Google Voice? It is a free internet telephone service that allows you to create and use a temporary phone number on your lost pet listing. This can help protect your privacy because you aren’t posting your real phone number in public. Google Voice will redirect the calls to your existing phone so you’ll still get sightings and leads as soon as they come in. You will also get an email when you miss a call.

Google Voice is only available in the U.S. but you can always use a VPN (virtual private network) service to get a Google Voice US phone number in any other country. If you are not in the U.S. follow the instructions at this link by clicking here.

How do I set up a Google Voice Number?

  1. You will need to have a Google account or a Gmail account. If you don’t have one you can create one by clicking here. Go to the Google Voice website and sign into your Google/Gmail account.
  2. Select “For Personal Use” and then choose either Android or IOS from the drop down menu depending on the type of cell phone that you have.
  3. Enter your area code or city in the Google Voice text box. You will want to use a local area code so that people will recognize it and not be hesitant to call if they see your pet.
  4. Use the drop-down menu to select a phone number. The website will now take you through a series of prompts to link your new Google Voice number to your existing phone number.

That’s it! Hopefully your phone will ring soon with a sighting of your missing pet!
